Called “Queen of the Meadow,” Meadowsweet is a wild member of the Rose family with many ritual uses. It grows in marshes and riversides across Europe. It was favored by the Druids and used to brew sacred meads and ales, while the Greeks scattered it in funerary rites. Meadowsweet is used to draw love, peace, and happiness, and is attributed the Goddess in her Maiden aspect. It also has associations with the Underworld and the realm of Faerie. Legend has it that Meadowsweet was the flower picked by Persephone in the myth of Persephone and Hades.
