Candle Magic Basics: Cast a Candle Spell in 3 Easy Steps

Candle magic is a versatile and easy-to-use form of magic that anyone can do. In this blog post, we'll walk you through the steps of choosing, charging, and activating your spell candle. By the end, you'll have everything you need to cast your very first candle spell!

Step 1: Choose Your Candle

The first step in any candle spell is choosing the right candle. The type of candle you choose will depend on your intention. For example, if you're looking to attract love, you might choose a pink or red candle. If you're looking for protection, you might choose a black or white candle. This could include a lighter, matches, heatproof dish, candle snuffer or (if you’re accident-prone) maybe even a fire extinguisher! You don't want to interrupt your spellcasting to go looking for something you forgot. Once you've collected all the materials you'll need for your spell, it's time to move on to the next step.

Step 2: Charge Your Candle

The second step is to charge your candle with your intention. To do this, simply hold the candle in your hands and focus on what it is you wish to achieve. Be specific and focus on one wish at a time—it’s important to stay very focused, so keep it simple and don’t let your mind wander away from the intention you’ve chosen. Now, visualize your goal as clearly as possible and infuse that energy into the candle. You can also say a chant or affirmation while you charge the candle. For example, if you're charging a love candle with the intention of attracting a new relationship, you might say something like "I am open to love" or "I am deserving of love." Once you feel that the candle is positively bursting with the energy of your desire, it’s time to activate the spell and release that energy into the Universe.

Step 3: Activate Your Candle

The third and final step is to activate your spell by lighting the candle. As you light the candle, visualize your goal again and affirm that it is already accomplished. For example, if you're casting a spell for a new job, you might say something like "I am now employed at my dream company" or "I am now receiving a salary that I deserve." After you've lit the candle and affirmed your goal, extinguish the candle and pronounce, “As I will, so it is done.” Alternatively, you can allow the candle to burn until it's completely melted down. Once it has burned out completely, your spell is complete!
