Being a Nature Witch in the City
Share
Hey there, witches! Today I want to talk about what it's like to be a nature witch living in the city. As you might imagine, it can be pretty challenging at times to stay connected to nature when you're surrounded by concrete and asphalt. But don't worry, I've got some tips and tricks up my sleeve that'll help you out.
First things first: What exactly is a nature witch? A nature witch is somebody who works with the natural world to create magic. This can involve anything from working with the phases of the moon to communicating with animals. While many nature witches are drawn to outdoor settings—like the woods, the beach, and the mountains—you can be a nature witch no matter where you live!
Books and websites about nature magic are abundant, but they often assume you have access to a lot of outdoor space. Spells and rituals that are specially written for city-dwelling witches are harder to find. (Some city witches are fortunate enough to have a big backyard or nice private park nearby, but most of us aren’t that lucky!) If you're interested in learning more about this path, I highly recommend checking out Urban Magick: A Guide for the City Witch by Diana Rajchel. Another excellent resource is City Magick: Spells, Rituals, and Symbols for the Urban Witch by Christopher Penczak and Judika Illes. Both books are a great for anyone who wants to learn more about urban witchcraft.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's get into some of my favorite ways of bring natural witchcraft indoors. One of the biggest challenges is finding time to connect with nature when you're constantly on the go. If you work full-time and have a busy social life, it can be tough to find time to venture outside and commune with Mother Earth. That's why it's important to get creative and find ways to bring nature into your everyday life.
Here are some of the ways I do it:
I keep plants in my home and office. Not only do they look nice, but they also help purify the air and raise the vibration of my space. Some of my favorite plants for indoor spaces are succulents, cacti, snake plants, and spider plants.
I work with crystals. Crystals are not only beautiful, but they are wonderful for connecting to the energy of the Earth. All crystals correspond to Earth, and they each have their own additional properties, as well. I like to carry around crystals that correspond with my goals for the day or week. For example, if I'm working on manifesting abundance, I might carry Citrine or Green Aventurine. If I'm looking for protection, I might carry Black Tourmaline or Obsidian.
I spend time in parks and green spaces. Even if it's just for 20 minutes, spending time outside in nature can help ground and center you. When I'm feeling overwhelmed or stressed out, I like to take a walk in one of my local parks or simply sit on a bench and people-watch.
I connect with animals. If you have a pet or animal familiar, make sure to give them at least a few minutes of quality attention every day. Animals are naturally magical and in tune with the rhythms of nature. Cats and dogs have even been known to meditate and work spells with their human companions! If you don’t have any animals at home, get to know the critters in your neighborhood. You could install a bird feeder to watch local birds, or meet new doggie friends at the park.
I meditate with nature sounds. There's something incredibly calming about listening to sounds of nature, even indoors. You can use a phone app or home digital assistant like Alexa or Google Home to summon the sounds of a rainstorm or crashing waves right into your living room. Whenever I need to clear my head or re-center myself, I likes to put on some relaxing nature sounds and meditate or do some deep breathing exercises.
At the end of the day, being a nature witch in the city is all about getting creative and finding ways to connect with nature wherever you are. By incorporating elements of nature into your everyday life, you'll find that it's easier than ever to tap into your power and work some magic—no matter where you are. Thanks for reading and stay magical!
